October/November Newsletter
Let’s get right down to business! This will be a combined
October/November newsletter as we are trying to conserve costs, etc. I
think we can get all the business done in one newsletter. First of all
I would like to thank all of you who have sent in your 2006-2007
membership renewals. They have been coming in at a steady pace. I would
also like to take this time to thank you once again for your kind
donations to the groomer fund. Every dollar helps out and it is much
appreciated.
This newsletter will be sent to you via e-mail using last year’s list.
So if you happen to get this in error and are no longer a member of our
club, no longer have sleds, or for whatever reason do not care to
receive it, this will be the last newsletter that Jill will be using
the 2005-2006 e-mail and snail mail list. So if you have not sent in
your memberships for this year, you will no longer be receiving the
newsletters and I urge you to check the web site periodically for
updates & news. She will be organizing the new list for the next
newsletter and those who wish to receive it will get it and those who
don’t care to will no longer be getting it. There, now that that is
done, on to business.
We will be holding our annual Safety
Course for the children on Saturday, December 9th. It will be at
the Sportsmen’s Club in Gilford (the usual place). You will need to
pre-register your child as we do have a limit on seating. The class
normally fills up fast so be sure to give Jill a call at 528-3310 to
register your children and/or any neighbor children or friend’s
children, etc.
Our
next meeting is Tuesday, October 24th at the Sportsmen’s Club.
This would normally have been the annual "pizza party" for the after
grass drags celebration but this year it will just be a regular
meeting. No pot luck, no pizza, just a meeting. It will actually start
at 7 p.m. as well so be sure to note the time.
This will be an important meeting as we now have our "fundraiser" in
place and ready to roll with it. The board of director’s as well as the
club members at our last meeting have voted to try a 50/50 raffle this
year as our means of raising funds for the club. This is how it works.
It’s a 50/50, meaning the winner keeps half the pot and the club gets
the other half. We are only selling 100 tickets and the tickets are
$100 each. Sounds scary to try and get this accomplished but everyone
feels it’s an easy way to make money for the club and with the over 600
members in the club, we are hoping that we can get these 100 tickets
sold in short order. We will draw the winner no matter how many tickets
are sold but you have the potential, and most likely probability, to
win $5000 if all tickets get sold. We do have a time frame here we are
working with though as we voted to draw the winner at the Christmas
Party/Yankee Swap on Tuesday, December 12th at Patrick’s Pub &
Eatery in Gilford. So here’s the deal, we have 95 tickets left to sell
and are looking for club members to either buy one or sell one. We
aren’t looking for everyone to try and sell 5 or 10 tickets each, just
1 ticket will do and if all goes well, we will reach our maximum
quickly and it’ll be done for another year. We are thinking that if
this does sell well that this will be our fundraiser each year which
will mean no yard sales, no onion rings at Gilford Old Home Day, no
sled raffles, no other haunting the members for fund raising ideas. We
are aware that some of you have sent in very generous donations along
with your memberships and we do appreciate that and will understand if
we don’t hear from you with regards to purchasing or trying to sell a
ticket. We are hoping that those of you who have not sent in donations
can and will step up and run with this. We feel very confident we can
sell all 100 tickets before the December 12th Christmas Party. Give
Jill a call or send her an e-mail if you’d like a ticket and she will
get one to you. She will also drop off a few at HK Powersports in
Laconia as well so you can drop by there and pick one up.
That’s all we have for this month but it’s an important month. Safety
Class, monthly meeting and 50/50 raffle! Any questions, comments or
suggestions, give us a call or drop an e-mail. Also, be sure to check
the web site for updates, work parties and if you have any snowmobile
related items for sale be sure to get them to Jill so she can have
Linda post them to the classifieds. We have found that the classifieds
have worked well in the past for people and it’s free! Think raffle and
think $5000 in your pocket!!!
Hope to see some of you at
the October meeting!
John Ferguson
