ON THE ADGEND THIS MONTH……UPCOMING CLUB MEETING……WEDDING……JOB PROMOTION……LAKEPORT BRIDGE….CHRISTMAS PARTY….SAFETY CLASS

The air is crisp, leaves are falling, frost is on the pumpkin and we are gearing up for the best winter in a long time!  You heard it here first!!

Let’s get down to business.  The steel has been ordered for the new bridge which we will be erecting at the Gilford end of the By-pass.  The supplier is estimating sometime around the week of November 5th.  It will actually be delivered during the week and our target date to install the wood will most likely be the following weekend.  We will be letting you know a date and time for that work party.

Speaking of work parties, thanks to the guys who have managed to show up to help us the past 2 work parties.  We have pretty much determined that it is so much easier when we get more than just 3 sets of hands. It would be nice to see few new faces as well as some of the old faces return and give us a hand once again!   We know that everyone has busy schedules, kids in sports, etc. but are hoping some can manage to squeeze in a work party here and there.  Sure does go faster with more hands!  One club member suggested changing the work parties to Sunday but we save Sunday for a “rain date” just in case!!

The 50/50 raffle ticket sales appear to be a little slow to date.  We purposely had the tickets printed and available quite a bit earlier this year so that we would potentially be able to sell all 100 of them prior to the drawing.  We also decided to have a 50/50 raffle so as not to have to raffle a sled and/or trailer, like a lot of other clubs are doing.  This seems to work best for fundraising for our club, not a whole lot of leg work involved and who doesn’t like “cold hard cash”?  With a raffle sled you are pretty much limited to people who are interested in snowmobiling to purchase a ticket.  With the cash, well, that speaks for itself!  So we ask you once again to dig deep and purchase a ticket yourself, try and sell a ticket to someone else or if this doesn’t work for you, maybe you can share the cost of a ticket with someone, whatever it takes to get the tickets sold!   Thanks to those of you who have purchased or sold tickets so far.

Congratulations and best wishes to Jason & Lisa Trefrey!  They were married last Saturday and it appears the weather cooperated with them!  Best Wishes for many years of happiness together!!

While we are sending out good wishes, we would like to extend our congrats to Jim Fortin who was recently promoted to Director of Belmont DPW.  Way to go Jim!!

This is where we are at with the RR draw bridge in Lakeport.  We are kicking around the idea of “not” putting the pallets down this year.  There have been times in the past years where we have put this bridge down in snow, ice, rain, you name it.  Last year Jill & Dave were out there 6 hours the day before chipping up ice & snow to clear the rails.  To make matters worse, we can only use the railroad for about 6 weeks and then have to turn around and take it all up once again.  When we were asked to remove it in “March”, not April but March, Jill & Dave were down there once again shoveling & chipping the whole day prior to make it easier to remove the next day.  It’s only a matter of time before we lose someone over the side of the bridge.

To make matters worse, our RR car (which Dave built) was removed from the site.  It was chained & padlocked with a RR padlock.  The chain & lock are still there but the car has mysteriously disappeared. To our knowledge, the only ones who have a key to this padlock are the RR people.  Hmmmmmm!!! We would like to know how you feel about not putting this bridge down.

The annual Trail Master’s Meeting will be held on Saturday, December 1st.  If you are interested in attending please give Jill a call so she can submit your name.  Don’t forget that this meeting is where you take the groomer course, which is needed before you can operate any of our groomers.

Our annual Safety Class in honor of Bud Wool & Jack Willey will be held on Saturday, December 8th.  You will also need to contact Jill for that as well.  Your child should either already be 12 or going to turn 12 sometime over this upcoming winter.   You will need to pre-register your child as we have a class limit.

Our Christmas Party and Yankee Swap will be held on Tuesday, December 11th at Patrick’s Pub & Eatery in Gilford.  You will need to let Jill know by Friday, December 7th if you will be attending.  We will be holding the 50/50 raffle that night so we should have a good crowd!

NEXT CLUB MEETING TUESDAY, OCT. 23rd, 7:00 @ SPORTSMEN’S CLUB IN GILFORD.  HOPE WE CAN ATTRACT MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE!!  At our Sept. meeting we had “9” people show up, 10 if you count Alec Decato! Not a good turnout for our first meeting of the year.  Try and make more of an effort to attend this month, thanks!!

Don’t forget to get those memberships back to Jill so she can get them processed.  You can download a form from our website, HK in Laconia has them as well as the NHSA Office in Tilton.
