Our History
The Belknap Snowmobiler's Inc. started in 1972 in Labonte's field in Gilford. A carnival atmosphere prevailed with people cooking over campfires on any given Saturday and Sunday. Old, young, male, female, it didn't matter, everyone always had a good time.
Our original grooming operation consisted of two 2x6 planks with steel cutters pulled by our snowmobiles. Well, 26 years later and many, many miles of snowmobiling we've come a long way. Our present club consists of 120+ members, locals and out of staters. Our grooming equipment consists of a 1978 Tucker with an 8' hatch drag which we use to groom primarily the railroad tracks from downtown Laconia to Meredith and once or twice a week to Ashland. We also have many miles of club trails up through the old Sate School (which is now the prison) which we also maintain. Our 2nd groomer consists of a 1989 Tucker 2000 with an 8' mogul master. This is primarily used to groom the trails Paugus Bay through Gilford to Belmont and Gilmanton. All toll we have approximately 60+ miles of trails which we maintain almost daily in the winter. Our grooming operation is top of the line but like all nonprofit organizations, we depend on donations, both monetary and with volunteers. We are awarded Grant-In-Aid which barely covers the cost of the fuel to run these two machines. Any repairs, maintenance cost, etc. come out of our club's account. We are involved in many fund raising events to help defer these costs as our trails are not only used by snowmobilers but also cross country skiers, hikers, bikers, and 4-wheeler's in the summer.
We are a dedicated group of people who enjoy the sport of snowmobiling and are looking to make it a safer, more enjoyable sport for others.
