Well,
that time of year has finally arrived! The time to put away the
sleds, trailers, clothing, boots, helmets & anything else related
to snowmobiling and get out our rakes, garden tools, lawn mowers &
pool supplies! I am not quite sure which is harder to take, the
end of the snowmobile season or the snow melting and what lies
underneath all the snow we had this winter!
What a winter we had, would you agree? Our groomers and operators
barely had any break this winter, which is a good thing! We
received many complimentary e-mails which Linda has posted to our web
site. Thank you for the encouragement, it sure is nice that our
groomer operators are given words of praise for a change. Nice job boys!
We had very minor groomer breakdown and/or repairs this winter, which
means that the groomer operators are getting the hang of the operation
and the importance of groomer maintenance.
The 39th Annual NHSA Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 10th at the Mountain View Grand Resort.
We are allowed 14 delegates for voting purposes. If anyone is
interested in attending please let Jill know ASAP. The cost is $25.00
each but the club will be picking up the tab. If you commit to
attending and DO NOT end up going, you will be held responsible for the
$25.00 cost per person. It will be up to you to get yourself
there. Registration is 9-10 a.m., buffet brunch from 10-11 a.m.
and the meeting will start at 11:00 a.m. promptly. Jill needs a head count to NHSA by April 30th so be sure to let her know if you would like to attend.
Our deepest condolences to club members Walter & Ginny
Clavett. They recently lost their nephew in that horrendous
motor vehicle accident in Glendale last week. Our thoughts are
with you both!
The Board of Directors disassembled the draw bridge in Lakeport and it
has been disposed of properly. Thank you to those who helped. It
was short notice which is why we did not send anything out (in case
some of you were dying to help out!!!) We will be looking to have a
steel, moveable bridge fabricated for next season. Grant-In-Aid
will determine that for us. Dave will be meeting with a local
steel fabricator to get an estimate to submit to DRED.
Our final meeting of
the year will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd at Hector’s Fine
Foods & Spirits located on Beacon Street West in Laconia.
We thought we’d try something a bit different for our last
meeting of the year to try and interest a few who normally
wouldn’t attend. We will plan to be there at 6:00, ordering
shortly after that so that we can try and have the meeting start as
close to 7:00 as possible. Jill has promised Carla that we would
have at least 10 people eating dinner that evening so let’s see
if we can accomplish that. If you would like to attend the
meeting but do not want to eat there you are more than welcome to come
by around 7:00 for the meeting.
We will have our usual end of the season meeting, electing a new Board
of Directors. If you are interested in becoming a director or
would just like to see what it’s all about we encourage you to
try and attend this meeting. After the new Board of Directors is
elected they in turn will elect the Officers for 2008-2009.
Again, if anyone is interested in becoming an officer, we encourage you
to attend.
Remember the date and note it’s Wednesday, not Tuesday, April 23rd, Hector’s in Laconia.
The food is great there, and the atmosphere is nice too! 6:00 to
eat and 7:00 meeting to follow dinner. Hope to see you there!!
Be sure to occasionally check the web site this summer for any updates, etc.

Letters from Trail Riders: (2/27/08)
My wife and I just wanted to pass along a congrats to the trail
groomer. You guys have been working hard and it is paying off. We took
my 4 year old daughter out for the first time this year because the
trails have been taken care off. We were not worried about big ruts and
the water bars are really not that bad. also know that we are sending
in the mail a little donation to the groomer fund I know not alot but
hopefully will help good job guys
p.s. my daughter loves to snowmobile now thank you
Brian
To all the people who have been grooming. OUTSTANDING.Sally and I had a
few hours on Friday, so we went riding. What a wonderful experience. We
rode out to Gilmington Four Corners and then into belmont.Coming back
through Laconia I have never seen the tracks better. Today is Sunday
I do not like to go out on the weekend but went out this morning early
with some friends(yes I have 1 or 2). We took almost the same trip and
the trails were almost a good as Friday. Hats of to you folks... Thanks
Bill & Sally Bickford Gilford
Jill,
Please pass on my thanks to our groomer operators for a job well done.
Tracey and I rode Gilford to Rumney and back on the Saturday of derby
weekend. The trails were rough to say the least, due to the HEAVY
traffic forced upon them by such poor lake riding conditions. During
our entire ride the only groomers we saw were from our club. Broken
windshield wiper on the groomer and all. They made the back breaking
ride a lot nicer when we got back on to our trails. They were a great
reflection on the lakes region as there were many out of state riders
on the trails that weekend. We saw our groomers out often the ENTIRE
weekend and it made me proud to be a member of the Belknap
Snowmobilers! Please pass this email along to them or use it on the
web site to express our thanks!

February 2008 Newsletter
Where has the winter gone? My how the time has flown by! As
we sit here it is storming outside, snow, rain, sleet. Not sure
what this will do to our trails. We had them in such terrific
shape too. The groomers have literally been out every single
day/night for the past 2 weeks or so. We had those trails so they
were glass smooth and now, well I am not sure what this weather will do
to the trail system. We have also had that water bar problem most
of the winter and I don’t think this rain will help that
situation. We have made several trips out in the groomer with
pallets and have tried to alleviate this problem but it still exists in
places.
Some of you may be receiving this newsletter via snail mail and have
signed up to receive it via e-mail. The reason is that Jill
couldn’t read your e-mail address. So if you would like to
receive any future mailings via e-mail send her a short note via the
address at the top of this newsletter and let her know so she can add
your correct e-mail address to the address book. Seems like
she’s spent most of the winter processing memberships, the
paperwork never ends. We are up over 600 at the present time and
they are actually continuing to come in. HK in Laconia has been pushing the memberships out left and right. Thank you again for those of you who have sent in donations to the groomer fund, it is much appreciated.
Most of you are probably aware that the drawbridge in Lakeport did actually get put down. DRED came
up with the manpower to get the sections placed for us so the tracks
are open all the way thru the city. We are not sure about
removing them and who, when and how that will get done. We still
do not think it is safe to be hanging off the rails and we cannot seem
to generate enough interested volunteers to help. We will
get back to you on this!
We took our trip to Yellowstone
in January and had a fantastic time. We actually had a few club
members on the trip as well and what a great time we all had.
What started out as a bunch of people who didn’t really know each
other ended up as a group of people who had a great time, got to be
friends and will most likely be going on the trip again next
year. Steve Parsons has booked the hotel in West Yellowstone for 1/7/09 – 1/12/09. He is taking reservations now so if you are at all interested give him a call or drop him an e-mail. His cell # is 781-775-6864 and his e-mail is dinsmoor17@aol.com
He is doing his best to keep the cost down and hasn’t secured a
price yet but we will let you know when it’s been
set.
Watch the web site for details. The weather cooperated a bit more
this year. Last year the temps ran below zero, way below zero,
the entire time we were there. This year the temps were in the
20’s most of the week but the sun never came out, we had flurries
all week. The trails were magnificent though. We did some
fine riding out there. This is so worth the trip. Although
we did have one small mishap, or I should say Steve Parsons a.k.a.
“Flipper” did. It seems he got going a bit too fast,
flipped his machine, not before running himself over and tearing his
jacket to shreds and slicing his thumb. Once we found out he was
not hurt we all started laughing and couldn’t stop. It was
quite the sight to see. I only wish that we had it on tape, that
would be some movie to watch at the next club meeting!!
Jill is going to get some pics to Linda to post on the web site so
check it out periodically. Watch for the teal jacket,
torn to pieces!
It seems that get well wishes are in order to Jim Andrews.
I believe he had a slight accident and did some damage to his collar
bone. His snowmobile season has tragically come to a quick
end. Guess it’s a good thing he made the Yellowstone trip
as that is all the riding he got in this year! Hope you are on
the mend Jim!
A special Happy Birthday wish to Evan Dickson as well as Trey Bourgeois!
Thank you to the great group of groomers we have this
year. You guys have stepped up and come thru with the grooming
and have done a great job to keep the trails in tip top shape!
