April 2006
Greetings:
Here we are, into April and "still" waiting for that big snow storm!!
Guess it’s not going to happen this year. What can we say? Some of us
actually did get in quite a few miles this season, had to trailer to do
it but it was possible. Had some nice riding up north as well as north
of the border.
This newsletter will be our last one for the 2005-2006 season. The next
one won’t come out until late August/early September, when renewals are
sent out. All in all we had a pretty decent turnout of renewals,
considering a lot of people never registered their sleds this year. We
thank you for joining, even if you didn’t actually register a sled. The
revenue certainly is appreciated as we have received the official
letter from the Airport Authority’s attorney not to come back next
October for our grass drags. So we’ve put the club in "cost cutting"
mode.
Our last meeting of the season will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
This will be a pot luck supper as they are the most popular meetings.
So bring your favorite dish & beverage and we’ll see you between
6:15 & 6:30 at the Sportsmen’s Club. After the supper we’ll hold
our meeting with the election of the board of directors, whose terms
have expired. They are as follows: Bill Bickford; John Decato; Norm
Daigle; Eric Lovering; Smitty; Steve Whalley. I would like to know if
any of you would not like to renew for 2 more years. We will need to
find replacement(s) if any of you are looking to step down, so please
let us know ahead of time if you will be stepping aside. Also, if there
are other directors whose terms are not up for expiration but would
like to step down as well, please let us know. Seems that everyone has
tons of things going on and some of you seem to have lost interest and
are not attending the director’s meetings for some reason or another.
So if this is you, by all means let us know.
Trails are all gated & closed for the season. Jersey barriers are
still the method we are leaning towards for the problem areas to keep
out the 4 wheel drive trucks, etc. We are putting out a call to see if
anyone out there has machinery, or the use of machinery, capable of
moving the jersey barriers to some of the remote locations in the
woods. We are unable to reach some of these locations using a
truck/trailer combination so a machine capable of lifting one end and
pulling them to the location will be required to get this accomplished.
Give us a call or send an e-mail along if you have access to any
equipment and can lend us a hand getting this done before the trucks
get out there and destroy the trails further.
We thank all who showed up to help dismantle the Lakeport draw bridge
as well as the palates on the bridge by Irwin Ford. Your help was much
appreciated and after having the RR car misplaced, it was found far
from where it was supposed to be. It was found in good shape. We’ll
have to double chain it this year.
The 37th NHSA annual meeting will be held at Camp Sno-Mo on Saturday,
May 6th. We are allowed 11 delegates for voting purposes and if anyone
is interested in attending, please let Jill know before April 30th as
she needs to get a head count to them by that time. There is a BBQ
lunch planned and last year it was very good. Registration is from 10
a.m. - 11:30 with lunch from 11:30 - 1 p.m. with the meeting actually
starting at 1 p.m. I believe last year it was over somewhere around 3
p.m. It’s a great chance to see Camp Sno-Mo if you’ve never been there.
Be sure to get in touch with Jill by the April 30th deadline if you are
interested in attending.
That’s about all we have for this year. The grass drags were a nice
source of income while we were able to have them but now will have to
come up with a Plan B for money making ideas!! Have a safe summer and
check the web site periodically for any happenings over the summer!
