Happy Thanksgiving!
We are going to do a combination November and December newsletter this
month as it is close to the end of November and almost into December.
Let me start out by thanking each and every one of you who helped us at
our 7th Grass Drags. You came through once again and the help was truly
appreciated. We feel we had a successful weekend, although the weather
was mighty cold & windy. The turnout was 1673 for the two days,
which was slightly up from last year. Everything went fairly smoothly
with very little complaints from anyone. We learn a little more each
year we have this race so we feel it can only improve. Thanks again for
all the help!
We recently installed six steel gates in Gilford on the Durrell
Mountain Trail. We have had a huge problem with 4-wheel drive trucks on
the trail system, doing quite a bit of damage. Dave Glazier met with
the Town of Gilford, the landowner as well as someone from the EPA and
this was decided the way to handle the situation. So with the help of
the landowner, Howard Warren, the gates were installed. We had just 2
people, Tim & Tom show up to help with this work party in addition
to myself, Dave Glazier & Norm Daigle. A total of 5 people doing
the work of 10.We worked 2 very long days but in the end the gates were
installed and we are hoping this will solve the problem. Thanks guys
for the help. We had a second work party this last weekend and the
turnout was slightly better. We installed 3 bridges on the Durrell
Mountain Trail and Sunday we trimmed the Airport trail as well as the
trail behind the Kawasaki Shop. A second crew consisting of Eric
Lovering & John Decato trimmed most of the trails on the Laconia
side of the trail system. Thanks to all who showed up for these work
parties. Your help is much appreciated!!
We still have the draw bridge in Lakeport to construct as well as
fashioning some pallets for the Irwin Motors Bridge. Please keep your
eye on the web site for work parties upcoming.
This newsletter will be the last newsletter using the 2003-2004
membership list. If you have not renewed as of yet this will be the
last newsletter you will be receiving until you renew your membership.
If you have renewed and have chosen to receive this via e-mail thank
you. Some of you may be getting it both ways and once we delete last
year’s membership list this will straighten itself out. We have both
lists, i.e., this year’s and last year’s membership and some may
overlap. Bear with us on this if you are getting duplicates.
We are again hosting a Safety Class for children. If you have a child
or know of a child who has not taken this course and is 12 or older,
please call Jill at 528-3310 to register. It is being held on Saturday,
12/11 at 8 a.m. at the Sportsmen’s Club in Gilford. The child will need
to bring a sandwich and we will supply drink, chips & dessert. Call
soon as the class fills up quickly and there is a 50 child limit.
Adults are welcome as well.
Last but not least, the 2004 Christmas Party/Yankee Swap. It will be
held at Patrick’s Pub in Gilford. We will once again have Stephanie’s
delicious buffet as in the past. It will be on Tuesday, December 7. We
will have a happy hour from 6 - 6;45 and we would like to eat somewhere
around 6:45 - 7:00. After the buffet we will have our Yankee Swap. If
you wish to participate in the Yankee Swap, bring a gift. If you would
rather not participate, you are not required to bring a gift. The cost
of the buffet will be $24.00 per person. This will include the meal,
dessert, tax & tip. You will need to let Jill know if you are
coming by Saturday, December 4th. This will be your only
notice/newsletter so mark the date and call to reserve a seat. We
always have great fun! Hope to hear from you.
Remember to periodically check the web site for work parties, updates,
etc. That is an easy way to keep in touch for those of you with
computers. Have a great Holiday Season and "THINK SNOW"!!
